The Story of My Love of Traveling in an RV
I bought my first recreational vehicle on a whim. I was just out of college and working as an outdoor education instructor and a river rafting guide. I found “Old Yeller” on a craigslist ad while I was working at a boarding school in Santa Barbara for the season. I drove through LA traffic to pick up the old 1976 Field and Stream vintage travel trailer for $1,200. I had a dream of traveling around the US and “blogging” my way though national and state parks and wilderness areas.
I made some repairs to Old Yeller, lived in her for a few summers in Idaho while working on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. I accepted an amazing opportunity to work for a fantastic company, Adventures Cross Country. I planned road trips and adventure trips for student groups. Planning trips and vacations for people was as exciting to me as taking them. At Adventures Cross Country I learned and observed how to run a business, problem solve travel issues and how much I loved the world of adventure travel.
After planning student group travel trips for more than 4 years, I moved to Colorado and accepted a job planning and organizing RV trips. I honed my road trip planning skills for RV and motorhome travel. The ins and outs of RV rentals, parking, campground restrictions and generally getting to know the West kept me busy. I have personally researched and visited every location Tumbleweed currently offers .
A decade after selling Old Yeller, I bought a small Toyota Class C motorhome and bought her home as “Skinny Marie. She is a vintage Sunrader and after a facelift (read removing shag carpet and new paint) I took her on a 6 month road trip across the US. I was able to work remotely and continue to plan RV trips.
In Skinny Marie I explored our huge country . We had fabulous adventures and loved it! Back at home in Colorado, I am realizing that long ago dream. I will keep traveling, exploring and enable other people to do the same!
I am really excited about this new chapter and so thankful for all the support I have . Hopefully I will be able to plan a trip for you soon! Trust me, you will love it!
