People have been living in and around the area of Joshua Tree National Park for over 5,000 years, but it wasn’t until one woman, Minerva Hamilton Hoyt, dedicated herself to the preservation of this desert landscape that the area became a national park slightly larger than the state of Rhode Island. One of the most fascinating parts of visiting this national park is the trees in which it is named after. Joshua trees look like something out of a cartoon, and no two trees are alike. You can spend hours taking photos and admiring just the trees. Beyond the trees, you can visit the unique rock formations, go hiking on the 300 miles worth of trails, bird and wildlife watch, go rock climbing, and spend the night under the stars at one of the camping grounds.
